It’s not my momma’s Club Med!

“Our purpose in life is to be happy. The place to be happy is here. And the time to be happy is now “words of Gerard Blitz founder of Club Med.

I’ve had the pleasure of visiting two Club Med locations – Punta Cana and Sandpiper Bay, Florida. In a few short weeks, we will be visiting our 3rd – Turks and Caicos and I am super excited to be going.

When I mention Club Med to my friends and families, it usually gets a very large “OOOOOOOHHHH”, and the eyes go up! They are thinking of the 80’s Club Med reputation. No locks on the doors, party central and wild vacations (you know the line “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas” – I think that might have started at a Club Med!) It’s no longer so . . . . .

We had the absolute pleasure of staying at the Zen Oasis, Club Med in Punta Cana. It is the adult’s only section of the resort and it was magnificent. There are a total of 78 spa-inspired deluxe rooms that come fully equipped. We stayed in the upper level room.

So, it was my husband and myself – you’ll notice in the picture the way the room is set up – you walk in directly in front of you is the bed. To the left is the shower, sink area and the toilet. Dopey us, we never realized until our last day that there is a curtain you can pull across to separate the bathroom area from the sleeping area.

The Zen Oasis has its own pool, bar and beach. Every afternoon at the bar, they would bring out different horderves. We spent a lot of time in this pool and at the Jacuzzi.

There are (3) restaurants – one right on the beach and the food was good.

But, I will tell you this – it was hot! It was hot all the time. This had nothing to do with Club Med – it’s Punta Cana!

We did wander over to the Hard Rock to check it out, beautiful – but in my opinion way way to big for me. They had shuttle buses from the resort to the beach!!!

HOT TIP FOR PUNTA CANA- Don’t drinks the water – not even to brush your teeth – they have bottled water in the room and it is there for a reason. I am telling you this from my own personal experience – the day before we were leaving to come home, we did a sunset catamaran cruise – we had a great time, drinking, swimming. We all had a lot to drink – when the catamaran stopped for us to swim, my husband decided that he would just jump into the water – well, he landed on a sea urchin and ended up with urchin spines in his foot (he didn’t really feel it, cause of the booze) but, he certainly did later on. OUCH!! Anyways, back to the water – so we returned to the room after the sunset cruise to get ready for dinner. Not thinking (must have been the booze) I brushed my teeth with tap water – as soon as I did, I said – Geez, hope I’m not going to be sorry! Well, around 3 am the following morning – boy, was I sorry? I honestly didn’t think that I was going to be able to get on the plane and fly home. I was sick for a week!
